New BMG surgery practice plans to expand services

Baptist Medical Group-Metro General Surgery, located next to Baptist Memphis at 6027 Walnut Grove Road, Ste. 319, formed less than two years ago and has since grown to cover all facets of general surgery.

Doctors Jason Hindman, Leslie Stewart, Jared Bratvold and David Ford make up the practice, all with specialties in general surgery. Stewart, who joined more than a year ago, is board certified in both general and vascular surgery.

Unlike other general surgery practices, BMG Metro’s four physicians are readily available for patients.

“With four of us, we have the ability to have one of the physicians always available,” said Ford. “Whether it be for consults or emergencies, patients are able to be seen in a timely manner.”

The four physicians all perform general surgeries, as well as dialysis access surgery, a subset of vascular surgery.

Ford and Stewart perform the majority of the dialysis access surgeries, as well as other general surgeries.

“We do such a broad base of general surgery,” said Ford. “We’re like a one-stop shop, in a general surgery sense.”

While the practice has generally focused on inpatient surgeries through the emergency department or inpatient consults, the practice is now working to do more outpatient, elective surgeries.

“One of the things that we are trying to do is more outpatient elective surgeries, especially for the BMG doctors,” said Ford. “We have clinic three days a week, and so we want to start expanding and do more elective surgeries in the basic tenants of general surgery.”

BMG Metro is always available for patients, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for inpatient and outpatient care, said Ford. The practice strives to be efficient in seeing and treating their patients, as time is of great importance in surgical situations.

“We always have someone available, ready to perform surgeries,” said Ford. “Patients are seen immediately, the operations are performed quickly, allowing the patient to return home sooner. We find that this is best for everyone, especially the patient, and helps the overall outcome of the patient’s health.”

Ford explained that the mission of the practice is to “provide high-quality, surgical care on an inpatient and outpatient basis, specializing in emergency and urgent surgery.”
