Since Baptist OneCare’s MyChart launched in January, more than 9,000 people have activated the tool, which gives patients controlled access to the same health record their physicians and clinicians use. Through MyChart, patients can view their test results, disease history, medications list, allergies and online statements. They also can schedule appointments, request medication refills, complete previsit paperwork/questionnaires, pay bills and securely message their physicians.
Rhonda Barnhill, a Baptist OneCare analyst, talks about her experience with using the product she helped build. For more information or to sign up for MyChart, please visit http://www.baptistonline.org/onecare/.
- How has MyChart made health care easier for you? After we went live I got sick and was placed on medication, which caused a reaction. Due to that reaction I was able to inbox my provider, who called in medication and messaged me back. I have also been able to cancel appointments, but most importantly when I was having health issues I was able to contact my provider, who also followed up with me through MyChart after I was admitted to the hospital.
- Would you recommend MyChart to others? Yes. It is SO convenient, and I am not saying that because I helped to build it. I LOVE the fact that I can view my letters, talk to my provider, request refills and so much more using MyChart. I no longer have to ask the office staff if they gave my provider my message. With MyChart you know they got it and they respond to you in a timely manner and to me, that is extremely important for patient care.
- Would you like to say anything else about MyChart? I LOVE it. I switched physicians so I could use it. When building the application and learning all the functions I decided MyChart was the best at improving the patient care experience. Where else can you request changes to your record and track your health? Nowhere. I live in a rural area that has a patient portal, but you cannot get your letters in the portal. Personally, as a patient and parent, I think being able to retrieve documentation such as letters and the after visit summary is important because you are given so many papers at the doctor’s office that you are likely to misplace. Having these forms available in an electronic format is AWESOME. Almost forgot, completing my questionnaires prior to my office visit saved so much time because the staff already had my responses and simply had to validate my answers. Baptist is on top of it and places patient health care at the top of the list.
