Baptist Union County EMT earns Service First award

David Brown, emergency medical technician at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, was chosen as the hospital’s most recent Service First champion.

He was nominated by Melissa Garrett in social services. In her nomination, Garrett shared that Brown had volunteered to care for a patient’s pet while the patient was hospitalized for treatment and recovery. The patient was apprehensive about undergoing treatment because no one could care for her pet. Brown came to the rescue and agreed to visit the patient’s home daily to assist with the care of the patient’s pet on his own personal time.

“David is a wonderful representation of the compassion and care that Baptist Union County promotes,” said Randy White, Baptist Union County’s chief nursing officer. “David’s selfless act of kindness deserves to be commended.”

Also nominated for Service First were Shawna Pickens, Susie Moorehead, Janet Byrd, Joann Burks, Teresa McCarver, Deya Kent, Jan Davis, and Patsy Sweatt.
