Baptist names long-time colleague as a system nursing director

Susan Ferguson, a Baptist colleague for more than 35 years, recently accepted the newly created position of system nursing director for clinical value analysis/specialty care/patient safety.

In her new role, she will lead initiatives for supply chain management and peri-operative services as well as manage patient safety and quality initiatives. Peri-operative services encompass care given before, during and after surgery, which commonly includes admission, anesthesia, surgery and recovery. Ferguson will also work closely with the emergency department leadership teams across the system to enhance regulatory compliance, patient flow and patient satisfaction, as well as focus on leadership skill development initiatives with the peri-operative and emergency department leadership teams.

“With her long history at Baptist and wide breadth of experience, Susan is a perfect fit for this position,” said Dana Dye, vice president of nursing and chief nursing executive for the Baptist system. “There is no one else with a keener understanding of how different areas across the system can work together to provide optimal outcomes for patients, promote fiscal responsibility and thrust the Baptist system forward as a leader in clinical excellence and patient satisfaction.”

She most recently served as chief nursing officer at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville, a role she has held since 2006. Ferguson has served in a variety of capacities in her career at Baptist, including system director of nursing, director of nursing administration, director of oncology services and chief nursing officer for the Baptist hospitals in the metro-Memphis area, as well as West Tennessee and Eastern Arkansas. Beginning her career in the emergency department at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Medical Center, Ferguson went on to work in pathology and radiation oncology, and she also served as a clinical instructor in radiation therapy at Baptist Health Sciences University.
