Baptist Booneville expands and relocates CCU

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville recently remodeled its 3 North unit and soon will open it as a critical care/cardiopulmonary step-down unit.

The new variable acuity unit will allow patients with critical care needs to stay in the same location throughout their hospital stay. In most cases, care will be adjusted to the patient’s needs, so the patient won’t have to move to a different level of care. This new model of care will enhance the patient and family’s care experience and enhance patient safety. Because the level of care changes rather than the location, there is better continuity of care and fewer transitions across care providers.

Teresa Dawson, Baptist Booneville’s chief nursing officer, had the following to say about the new unit.

“By reducing the number of moves from one room to another, we expect to reduce the opportunity for confusion and anxiety. The newly remodeled rooms will provide greater comfort for the patient and their loved ones.

“The rooms are spacious with private baths and will allow up to two family members to stay overnight with the patient. There is no longer the need to sleep in a small waiting room on a couch or in a chair.

“As Baptist Booneville continues to expand and enhance our services, we seek every opportunity to expand our patient-family centered care model. While a hospital is not home, the larger rooms in this new unit will allow for a more private, homelike environment to accommodate the emotional and social needs of our patients.

“The full-view glass doors, cardiac monitors and camera monitors will support the advance clinical needs of the critical care patient, allowing the specially trained nursing staff to monitor the patient both inside and outside the critical care rooms.

“Baptist Booneville will continue to look at opportunities to improve our performance and services to ensure that the residents of Prentiss County and the surrounding areas receive the quality care they deserve. The recent expansion is just another way Baptist Booneville helps our patients Get Better.”
