Members of Baptist DeSoto’s Women’s Auxiliary recently wore Baptist shirts to show their support for the hospital and the Baptist system. The group, whose members come from DeSoto and Shelby County churches, has been a strong partner with Baptist DeSoto for more than a decade.
Twelve women participate in the Women’s Auxiliary under the supervision of Chaplain Steve Edmonds, Baptist DeSoto’s director of Pastoral Care. June Coleman, a member of Gracewood Baptist Church, is president.
The auxiliary works behind the scenes and provides a variety of handmade items, including hand-knitted caps and blankets for newborns, kaleidoscopes, stuffed animals and finger puppets for pediatric patients. They also make handmade stuffed pillows for mastectomy patients and provide handmade caps for cancer patients and a variety of magazines for visitors to read. This year, they provided more than 250 Christmas caps for newborns.
