The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, protects the privacy of medical records and other individually identifiable health information.
Please don’t fall victim to a HIPAA violation; follow these easy steps:
- Always use two patient identifiers;
- Verify the recipient’s fax number before sending a fax and only fax patient information if your manager approves;
- Use lowered voices when sharing protected health information.
Don’t forget to complete an Electronic Occurrence Report (EOR) if you feel that HIPAA or a Baptist privacy policy has been violated.
