Getting to Know Dr. Paul Bierman

Dr. Paul Bierman, a board-certified doctor in gastroenterology, practices at Gastrointestinal Specialists Foundation, Inc. After earning an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, he lived in San Francisco and worked at Stanford University, where he performed tissue typing for the organ transplant department. He also researched HLA genotypes before returning to Philadelphia for medical school.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your job?
Spending time with my family, traveling, collecting ancient coins, collecting interesting rocks, minerals and fossils.

Who or what inspired you to pursue a medical degree?
I always wanted to be a doctor from my childhood. It must have been the doctor kit my parents bought for me when I was 5 years old.

What is a highlight of your career?
Maintaining my family while still providing timely and compassionate care.

Where has your career taken you in terms of cities and states?
New York, Florida, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Memphis.
