What made you decide to join Baptist:
Baptist is a very well-run organization. I also found it very exciting that Baptist is starting a pediatric emergency department and making a commitment to increase their services for pediatrics. I loved the idea of being on the ground floor and helping with developing a pediatric program with Baptist.
What do you enjoy doing outside of your job?
I love spending time with my children. I also enjoy traveling, when I get the chance.
Who or what inspired you to pursue a medical degree?
My mom’s best friend became a nurse when she was in her 40s. She was an excellent nurse and was like my second mother. I was planning on becoming a teacher, but she knew that I also loved medicine. She talked to me one day and suggested that I consider pursuing a career in medicine – particularly in becoming a pediatrician because I loved children. At that time not many females became physicians, but she encouraged me to not only become a physician, but she let me know that females could definitely do that work and to think out of the box.
