Two CRASH Courses propel students’ knowledge of health care

Baptist Union City and Golden Triangle recently hosted CRASH Course camps for area teens interested in health care careers. They got a first-hand look at many different parts of the hospital and gained valuable knowledge along the way.

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City recently offered its CRASH Course Nurse Camp to area high school students. The summer day camp exposes students to the health care industry, primarily nursing. According to Lori Brown, chief nursing officer at BMH-Union City, “The goal of CRASH Course Nurse Camp is to promote the nursing profession to young people so that they select appropriate high school course work and can begin setting goals for their future careers.” The Tennessee Hospital Association and other organizations have recognized CRASH Course Nurse Camp for its unique approach to workforce development. During the camp, students learn about the educational requirements, skills, typical job duties and personal qualities of nurses. They participate in interactive, hands-on activities that highlight the skills, equipment, technology and resources used by nurses and other health professionals.
