NEA Baptist ‘Fight Club’ dons special uniform item for battle

NEA Baptist Hospital emergency department nurse Carol Armstrong is bravely fighting breast cancer, and she has an army of pink-capped supporters around her.

Fellow ED nurse Shelia Montgomery knew Carol was uncomfortable wearing wigs to work, so she got approval to order special caps that Carol and the rest of the staff could wear to make it easier for Carol to go wigless. Her co-workers surprised Carol with the new uniform item one day, and she was able to work in comfort because she looked like everyone else. As the news spread throughout the hospital, more staff began requesting caps. Initially, eight caps were ordered, but that number quickly grew to 40 as more NEA Baptist colleagues stepped up to support Carol. They all wear their special caps every Saturday, which has been declared “Fight Club” day to “Support Those Fighting Breast Cancer.”
