WREG News Channel 3‘s weekly Pass It On segment honors people in the Mid-South who are making a difference by helping others. The news station gives the honoree a donation during a surprise taping that airs on the news.
The latest segment featured an $1,800 gift to a Baptist Operation Outreach colleague to help start a program for people in her previous situation.
“Today we wanted to honor one of our fellow colleagues,” Cynthia Allen, system manager of Baptist Community Relations, told News Channel 3 reporter Richard Ransom. “Her name is Grace Hilton Young, and she was one of our former patients for Baptist Operation Outreach. She has since then made it her life mission to turn her life around and help other people. She has been so inspiring and she is trying to start her own nonprofit called ‘In The Arms of an Angel’.”
Young’s former life of drug addiction, prostitution, homelessness and suicide attempts is a thing of the past. She now has a degree and is a full-time employee with Baptist as a patient care advocate.
“We couldn’t think of a more deserving person and we have been so inspired by your story. We hope this $900 will help plant the seed to get your mission started,” Allen said, while presenting the gift to Young.
Baptist Operation Outreach is also matching the $900 News Channel 3 gave, so Young’s “In the Arms of an Angel” program will receive $1,800.
She was elated about the donation and thankful to Baptist and Channel 3 for the spirit to pass it on. Young says she is living proof that you can break generations of curses.
“I know the power of influence that other people can have over you, but I also know the power of a loving God when we accept him in our lives,” she said. “We can all change and we can be productive members of society.”
