We recently unveiled a new Specialty Pharmacy for dispensing medications used to treat specific diseases and conditions. You can read more about it in the article titled “Learn about Baptist’s new specialty pharmacy” in this week’s Leader, but I’d like to talk about why it was important for us to provide this service to our patients and team members.
The goal of our Specialty Pharmacy is to help patients throughout our service area manage chronic illnesses like cancer or Crohn’s disease. These conditions are hard enough to endure, so we want to do all we can to make life easier for those who suffer from them. The Specialty Pharmacy can deliver medications to patients’ homes.
Part of providing empathetic care is to enhance access to treatment for our patients – including you –and our Specialty Pharmacy is an extension of this commitment. Some of you may have heard me repeat this quote: “Don’t find customers for your products, find products for your customers.” The Specialty Pharmacy is the perfect example of the value of finding products for our customers; we’re responding to what they need, not what we want them to have.
Jillian Foster, our pharmacy service line leader, and her team deserve credit for making our Specialty Pharmacy possible. This service may make getting medications simpler, but it took a great deal of hard work to create it. I’m grateful for their devotion to this project.
