Earlier this month I visited with two groups of future leaders—a HOSA-Future Health Professionals chapter and participants in the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Corner Office Series. During these meetings I shared some of my experiences, gave a little advice and answered questions. I had a great time getting to know them, and I would like to thank our Community Relations team and the Baptist College of Health Sciences for making these opportunities possible.
These meetings reminded me of the role mentors played in my life and career. I learned so much from former Baptist leaders like Stephen Reynolds, our former president and CEO; David Hogan, our former executive vice president and chief operating officer; and Jim Ainsworth, one of our former vice presidents. They helped make Baptist what it is today, and I’m so blessed that they took the time to share their knowledge and wisdom with me. I feel a tremendous responsibility to do the same for others.
I also thought about you and how much time you give to students and people just entering the health care profession. It’s a testament to all you have achieved that students and young professionals look to you to show them the way. You are an example for these future leaders. You’re an example for me, too.
