Do you remember Ford’s old tagline? “Quality is Job 1.” This came to my mind recently as we celebrated a number of our hospitals’ quality successes.
During this year’s Spring Quality Symposium, I was so excited to see the great work you’re doing to ensure that we deliver safe care throughout our system. It gets harder every year to crown a winner, but this year we gave the award to Baptist North Mississippi for its sepsis management program. The team’s efforts resulted in decreases in antibiotic use, length of stay, cost per case and readmissions. Most importantly, it also saved lives.
Quality leaders from Baptist Booneville, Baptist Tipton, Baptist Union City and Baptist Union County also earned green jackets for reaching challenge in all five QUEST domains for at least one month between April 2018 and March 2019.
Baptist Union County and Baptist Union City – along with Baptist Golden Triangle – also earned “A’s” in the Leapfrog Group’s latest Hospital Safety Grade. Baptist Golden Triangle is the only hospital in Mississippi – and one of only 41 in the United States – to have received “A’s” on every Leapfrog survey since the group began grading hospitals in 2012.
Our quality scorecard shows the great strides many of our hospitals are making in several important areas. Together, we’re making our hospitals even safer for our patients. I know this work is hard, and you may encounter challenges in your quest to deliver the care our patients deserve. But as long as we keep quality as our primary focus, we’ll celebrate many more wins—and healthy patients.
