Congratulations to Sara Eaves, RN, float pool, for being selected the DAISY Award winner for the second quarter. A friend of a patient nominated Sara for showing compassion to the young child of a couple who had just lost a loved one in the Critical Care Unit. After working her 12-hour shift, Sara took the time to play on the floor with the child, giving her parents a chance to grieve their loss. “…I saw a nurse who had just gotten ‘off duty’ from a 12-hour shift at her ‘real job’ sitting in the floor playing with a sweet little girl,” the nomination read.
“While her job was over, her ministry duty was continuing for at least a few more hours. The nurse was giving the child’s parents a break and an opportunity to process their recent loss. She was ministering to them as an example of Christ,” the nomination continued. “She could have just walked by this family she didn’t really know that well. However, she saw a need and she met it with the love and humility of Christ.”
