Daisy winners known for strong faith in action

Baptist Union County

Youlanda Prather, BSN, RN, Outpatient Surgery, was named a DAISY Award recipient at Baptist Union County. Youlanda was nominated by several patients and team members who praised her compassion and kindness. In one nomination, a patient wrote, “Her smile alone is enough to calm your nerves. I have no doubt that she is the kind of person who treats everyone according to what our Bible teachers us to ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’”

Another patient stated, “Mrs. Youlanda Prather is the epitome of professionalism and compassion.” Randy White, chief nursing officer at Baptist Union County, said Youlanda has been nominated multiple times, indicating her degree of dedication and commitment to providing outstanding patient care.

It is truly an honor to recognize Youlanda for her compassion and professionalism,” he added.

Congratulations to Sara Eaves, RN, float pool, for being selected the DAISY Award winner for the second quarter. A friend of a patient nominated Sara for showing compassion to the young child of a couple who had just lost a loved one in the Critical Care Unit. After working her 12-hour shift, Sara took the time to play on the floor with the child, giving her parents a chance to grieve their loss. “…I saw a nurse who had just gotten ‘off duty’ from a 12-hour shift at her ‘real job’ sitting in the floor playing with a sweet little girl,” the nomination read.

“While her job was over, her ministry duty was continuing for at least a few more hours. The nurse was giving the child’s parents a break and an opportunity to process their recent loss. She was ministering to them as an example of Christ,” the nomination continued. “She could have just walked by this family she didn’t really know that well. However, she saw a need and she met it with the love and humility of Christ.”
