Baptist hospitals welcome New Year’s babies

Welcoming the first baby of the New Year is a special occasion at Baptist Memorial hospitals. New parents receive gifts, photos are taken, and local media report on the joyous occasions. Here’s a look at some of the young stars who made their debut at the beginning of 2016.

[toggle title=”Baptist Women’s Hospital” state=”open”] Nazaria Blake made her entrance into the world one minute into the New Year. She weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches long. Hospital team members presented proud parents Nikita and Skylarr Blake with a car seat full of goodies.

Austin Fenster was born at 9:53 a.m. on New Year’s Day, weighing exactly 5 pounds and measuring 18 inches long. Baptist Golden Triangle team member Laura Reese presented parents Jakala and Jarvis Fenster with a baby bathtub filled with more than $150 worth of baby care items.

At 4:05 a.m. on the second day of the New Year, Baptist Union County welcomed its first baby of the year. Carlie Johnson weighed 6 pounds, 5 ounces, and her parents are Shelby and Clay Johnson. To commemorate the special occasion, the hospital gave the family a car seat and a large gift bag with a variety of baby items.

Audrey Claire Powell was born at 2:53 p.m. on Jan. 2 at Baptist North Mississippi weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces to parents Katie Powell and Timothy Yates. The hospital gave the family a gift basket filled with baby items, including a baby blanket and clothes.

Little Rhylae Young was Baptist Union City’s first baby of 2016, born on Jan. 2 at 11:10 a.m.

Baptist DeSoto’s first baby of the year arrived in dramatic fashion. Parents Maria Harris and Derrius Walton arrived at the hospital at 3:50 a.m., and four minutes later, Armani Walton was born in the triage area of the hospital. Mother and baby, who weighed 5 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19 inches long, are doing well, and the hospital gave the parents a car seat, a diaper cake and other goodies.
