A Message from Chris Anderson, CEO, Mississippi Baptist Health Systems
On behalf of Mississippi Baptist Health Systems, I want to express what an exciting time this is for us as we join forces with the Baptist Memorial Health Care team. Everyone in the communities we serve will benefit from our alignment with an organization that shares our commitment to both Christian values and quality health care.
Mississippi Baptist Health Systems actually began in 1908 when two physicians in Jackson, Mississippi converted a home into the city’s first hospital, which later became known as Baptist Medical Center, a 628 licensed bed hospital. Their vision was transformed into Mississippi Baptist Health Systems. Today, there are four hospitals in our system, including BMC – Attala, BMC – Leake, and BMC – Yazoo. We provide numerous other health care services throughout central Mississippi, including 16 clinics ranging from family practice to specialty clinics, wellness facilities, and many others.
Mississippi Baptist employs approximately 3,000 people and has more than 500 physicians on its medical staff. Through the years, Mississippi Baptist has become a well-known and well-respected destination for health care, treating patients from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Although Baptist’s primary service area is central Mississippi, annually Baptist treats patients from all 82 Mississippi counties.
Mississippi Baptist Health Systems has been a consistent market leader in quality service and patient satisfaction. Two years ago, Healthgrades awarded Baptist Medical Center both its Outstanding Patient Experience Award and its Patient Safety Excellence Award, putting Baptist Medical Center in the top 2 percent of hospitals in the country to receive these distinctive awards. Last month, Baptist Medical Center received notification of its designation as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This is the nation’s top nursing honor. Now, as part of Baptist Memorial, with shared knowledge, access to Baptist OneCare, and the many additional resources available, we will become even stronger and better equipped to provide high-quality services for many years to come.
As a new day and future emerges for us, we anticipate exciting opportunities ahead. We are in a wonderful organization, with a culture and Christian mission that I know provide a solid foundation for our partnership. Both Mississippi Baptist and Baptist Memorial have been known as “Baptist” by our communities for many years. Both have consistently demonstrated, over 100 years, a history of providing excellent care in a Christian healing environment. Many organizations do not get to choose their partners, so this is an extraordinary and collaborative opportunity for us to become a regional health care destination in the Mid-South. In fact, together, we are now the largest provider in our region and the largest Baptist health system in the nation.
As we combine resources, Baptist will be better equipped to meet the many challenges facing the health care industry, and at the same time, we are positioning ourselves to grow even stronger for another 100 years of service. We will continue to be the health care provider of choice in the communities we serve, and most importantly, we will continue to keep foremost a commitment to our Lord and serving others in need. Our future is bright, and we look forward to our shared journey as a combined Baptist organization.
